911 calls, body cam video released from bizarre arson, murder case | Arizona News

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – Phoenix police have turned over audio tapes of terrifying 911 calls from a bizarre crime spree that started with arson and ended with murder. One of the calls was made by a woman whose husband was killed in their house while she was hiding from an intruder. The crimes happened on March 31, 2018 and the calls started coming in during the very early hours of the morning. MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS5) — A Mesa woman has been arrested for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a hammer on Christmas morning. The Dec. 25 incident happened at a home near Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue. Mesa police say a neighbor called them after hearing a disturbance at the home. When officers arrived at the house, police say they found 30-year-old Jessica Julianna Ruiz-Iturbe holding a hammer in her hand. Police say Ruiz-Iturbe and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument. PHOENIX – A woman in a vegetative state, who has been in the care of Hacienda Healthcare in Phoenix for more than 10 years, gave birth on Dec. 29 when employees did not know she was pregnant, a source told 12 News. Now, Hacienda Healthcare is at the center of a sexual assault investigation by Phoenix police.  The woman is non-verbal and cannot move on her own. PHOENIX — A federal appeals court will give Democrats a new chance to argue that an Arizona law banning “ballot harvesting” is illegal. In a brief order, the majority of the judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said they want to review and reconsider a 2-1 ruling by one of their panels last year that upheld the 2016 law, which bars Arizonans from collecting and delivering the ballots of others. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Homeland Security has asked the military to provide more help securing the U.S.-Mexico border, two defense officials said Friday amid a political standoff over President Donald Trump’s demand for more money to build a border wall. A federal appeals court will reconsider its earlier ruling against a challenge to Arizona’s restrictions on collection of early ballots and refusing to count votes cast in the wrong precinct. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday a larger panel of judges will review an appeal of a trial judge’s denial of the challenge by Democratic Party officials who said Arizona’s practices disproportionately affect minority voters. SCOTTSDALE (3TV/CBS 5) — The Scottsdale Police Department released video of the arrest of Gov. Doug Ducey’s 19-year-old son at a Scottsdale bar last month. The body camera video, purposely blurred by Scottsdale police was taken outside of the Boondocks Saloon back on Sunday, Dec. 16. Arrest records from the Scottsdale Police Department show that 19-year-old Joe Ducey was arrested for allegedly using false identification to enter the bar.
