NAZ Suns donate $7,520 to local law enforcement, first responders and military | The Daily Courier
The Northern Arizona Suns welcomed local law enforcement agencies, first responders and members of the military June 12 at the Prescott Valley Event Center to donate a $7,520 check, which are the proceeds from last season’s Salute to Heroes Night. The funds were raised during the 2017-18 season finale March 24 during a post-game auctioning off of specialty camouflage jerseys the team created. Representatives of the Prescott Valley Police Department, Yavapai County Sherriff’s Office, Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority, VFW Post 10227 and American Legion Post 140 were in attendance. On March 24, the NBA Gatorade League club wrapping up its second year in Prescott Valley hosted pregame events that included helicopters, SWAT, K9 units, fire trucks and patrol car displays.
Mile Hi Horseshoe Club winners from Hit the Stake tournament
The Mile Hi Horseshoe Club played its Hit the Stake sanctioned tournament June 9 at the Watson Lake Park Horseshoe Complex in Prescott. Winners were as follows: In Class A, Trisha Hoshaw of Mesa won, followed by Frank Farley of Apache Junction in second place and Steve Ochoa of Dewey in third. In Class B, Greg Reed of Prescott Valley won, followed by John Hunt of Prescott Valley in second place and Terry Sloan of Prescott Valley in third. At 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16, the Central Arizona Horseshoe Club will play host to the Call of the Wild tournament. The club’s courts are located at American Legion Park, 3281 N. Bob St., in Prescott Valley.
COPS Arizona holds 5-0 5K Run/Walk to honor fallen officers
In effort to honor fallen police officers in Arizona, the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Arizona organization held a 5-0 5K Run/Walk on June 10 at Embry-Riddle in Prescott.
Approximately 150 runners participated in the event and wore a fallen officer’s name on their race bib. All proceeds benefitted COPS Arizona, a 501(c)3 organization that helps rebuild the lives of fallen officer’s families and co-workers. COPS Arizona is an affiliate of COPS, a national organization that launched in 1984 and now has more than 15,000 families strong.

Local grapplers travel to Colorado
Titus King and Jacob Foshee were among several Bradshaw Mountain wrestlers who had strong showings at the Wrestle the World Training Camp on June 8 to 10 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Teams from Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Idaho competed at the event. Nearly 300 wrestlers were in attendance. King earned 12 wins, while Foshee earned 11 for Bradshaw Mountain. Other standouts included David Medevielle, Blake Huenemeyer and Owen Alvarez. Next up, Bradshaw Mountain is scheduled to participate in the Marana Mountain View Summer Duals on Saturday, July 7, in Tucson.
