House, Senate appropriations committees vote on plan

Will the Arizona Legislature pass a budget this week? It’s possible, but several large hurdles remain. On Wednesday, appropriations committees in both chambers of the Arizona Legislature moved through votes on spending bills for the $11.8 billion plan. It’s one of the first steps toward passing a budget that would fund state government starting July 1.  It remains unclear if the Senate GOP will have enough votes to ultimately approve a budget once bills make it to the floor. Tucson Police Border Patrol Agent Steven Holmes An Arizona Border Patrol agent was charged with multiple sexual assaults spanning seven years, Tucson police announced Wednesday. Steven Holmes, 33, was arrested Tuesday. Holmes is charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of aggravated assault. A woman who said she met Holmes through a dating app told investigators on May 13 that he sexually assaulted her after the two went on a date, police said. MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A Mesa man has been arrested for the sexual abuse of four children in his home.  Mathew Arrington, 55, was first arrested on May 7 after the first victim came forward.  [WATCH: Mesa adoption advocate arrested on suspicion of child sex abuse] Court documents state that Arrington was released on bond with an ankle monitor on May 9. Alexander Leever, 24, faces charges of sexual conduct with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia. LAVEEN, AZ (3TV/CBS5) — A Laveen man working as a counselor at an after-school program has been arrested for allegedly showing naked pictures to students. Arthur Douglas, 19, faces four charges of furnishing obscene materials to minors. Police say Douglas was working as an assistant counselor at Paseo Pointe Elementary School in Laveen when he showed two students inappropriate images on his cell phone.
